Learning objectives
The course consists of three learning paths: pedagogy, teacher’s role and assessment.
1) Pedagogy and educational design
– Introducing Problem-Based Learning and Phenomena-Based Learning
– How to use peer learning as a part of collaborative programming learning
– Transversal learning goals in programming education
2) Teacher’s role
– Teacher’s role as a guide for learning rather than as an expert
– How to celebrate both success and failure while learning to code
3) Assessment is a tool for learning
– Understanding the role of assessment in programming learning.
– Being able to design opportunities for students’ active feedback seeking and reflection.
Contents
The course How to teach coding – 21st Century Coding Pedagogy is about adopting a teaching approach and a teacher’s role that will make teaching coding and robotics fun and effective – both for you as a teacher and for your students.
This course will tell you all you need to know about teaching coding.
How to teach coding the most effective way?
What is a good pedagogical approach?
How to maximize engagement of all learners?
What kind of projects to make when students have different skill sets?
How to be self-confident as a teacher when you’re really not a coding superstar? (In fact you do not have to be!)
What kind of role does assessment have in coding instruction?
You will have an access to the discussion forum for sharing and interacting with other course participants, and you will get support from peers and feedback from instructors.
Earn a digital badge
After the course, you will receive a downloadable certificate and a digital badge. To earn the certificate and the badge, you will need to complete all the course tasks and tests successfully.
Target group: K-12 teachers, and coding tutors and after-school instructors
Completion methods: Combination of videos, course readings, tests, and professional learning tasks.
Participants will have access to the course for 3 months from the date of first access. The course is asynchronous and can be completed at the participant’s own pace.
Duration: Completing the course takes approximately 6-8 hours.
