Learning Scoop offers a comprehensive Education in Finland Study Tour, allowing participants to delve into the Finnish education system at every level. The program provides insights into the key factors behind its success, spanning from early childhood education to higher education.

The Finnish education system is founded on principles of equality, equity, trust, responsibility, autonomy, collaboration, a learner-centered approach, and research-driven development. Objectives: The Education in Finland Study Tour gives visitors an overview of the Finnish education system, Finnish society and culture, support systems, learning and teaching approaches and how it is implemented in action. The program also presents the Finnish everyday school life, gives visitors the chance to observe and reflect Finnish education on-site, get the research-based background on what, why and how Finnish education is conducted and to see the Miracle of Finnish Education in practice.

Program:

Monday: Introduction to the Finnish Education System

  • Finnish Education system and training routes
  • Introduction to the principles behind the education system
  • Paradoxes of Finnish Education: Less is More, No dead ends etc.
  • National core curriculum
  • Assessment in the Finnish Comprehensive Education
  • Visit to a primary and lower secondary school (grades 1–9)

Tuesday: Early Childhood Education and Care in Finland

  • Educare model: integrated approach to care, education and teaching
  • National Core Curriculum for ECEC in Finland: areas of learning and transversal competencies
  • Learning through play
  • Child-centered pedagogy: inquiry-based learning, hands-on learning, small group activities, versatile learning environments
  • Pre-primary education as a link between early childhood education and school
  • Visit to a day care center and pre-primary classes

Wednesday: General upper secondary education in Finland

  • Educare model: integrated approach to care, education and teaching
  • National Core Curriculum for ECEC in Finland: areas of learning and transversal competencies

  • Child-centered pedagogy: inquiry-based learning, hands-on learning, small group activities, versatile learning environments

Friday: Higher education in Finland

  • Higher education provided by universities and universities of applied sciences

The Education in Finland Study Tour

Visits include:

  • Guided visits to Finnish schools
  • Different types of visits: from a day care centre to a higher education institution
  • Participation in the school’s day-to-day activities: classroom, meal time, recesses etc.
