Global ESD Teacher Training is a New Summer Program for teachers!
Global ESD Teacher Training gives you the fundamental skills and competences declared by UNESCO to teach Education for Sustainable Development. Additionally you will learn the best Educational Approaches from Finland and how Finland has successfully incorporated ESD to its National core curriculum.
EduGems has a holistic approach that incorporates the best pedagogical practices from the Finnish education system. EduGems‘ courses foster systems thinking, argumentation skills, reflecting and give practical guidance how to promote change for the better. This teacher training program is a combination of webinars, self-study modules and tasks.
For who?
- All level TEACHERS and NGO workers
- Beginner and Intermediate level. No prior experience required (suitable for pre-primary, primary and secondary/higher secondary teachers)
When?
- June 15th-August 31st, 2022
- Enrolments close June 15th
- Complete at your own time and schedule
- Approximately 30hours to complete full training
- Participants are required to complete the training by August 31st, 2022
Where?
- 100% online. Learners get access to EduGems e-learning platform.
- Taught in English by Dr. Marianne Juntunen.
- Webinars include Finnish and international guest speakers.

Register before June 15th, 2022 through the options provided:
- Option A – Individuals: Enroll by June 10th to receive EarlyBird Registration fee €80 (+VAT within EU. Normal fee €120). Register here. Receive immediate access to program after payment.
- Option B – Teams and Schools: Registration fee €200 for teams of 3 up to 5 participants. Fill in the form provided to register and apply for group enrolment pricing. EduGems customer representative will be in contact with your shortly.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) empowers learners of all ages with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to address the interconnected global challenges we are facing, including climate change, environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity, poverty and inequality.
Learning must prepare students and learners of all ages to find solutions for the challenges of today and the future.

Global ESD Teacher Training 2022
Education for Sustainable Development is still mostly unknown and unused in schools around the world, yet it is a SDG 4.7 and its implementation is urgent! The World lacks holistic science lessons aligning with sustainability and pedagogy typical in Finland – trusting the capabilities of learners.
Finland has successfully incorporated holistic ESD to its curriculum, and is currently taking the lead in making this transformation possible worldwide, and EduGems is leading the way!
This training is divided into two modules: Module 1 – Educational Approaches in Finland and Module 2 – Sustainable Development in Education
Learning outcomes Module 1
During this module you learn about innovative research-based practices on how and why to include, learn and teach Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). You will see a shift in old habits and patterns and allow space for new, empowering revelations.
After completing the module you:
- feel more confident about teaching.
- understand the basics of Education for Sustainable Development.
- understand best teaching practices from Finland.
- are able to apply new techniques to use in your own teaching.
- understand how to decrease your own and students’ eco-anxiety and how to turn it into motivation and willingness to act.
- learn to foster inner motivation through new ideas and values for appreciating teachers’ work.
- are ready to start positive pedagogy e.g. strength-based feedback.
Upon successful completion of videos, reading material and quizzes you will receive a certificate from Module 1.
Topics and activities in Module 2
During this module you will:
- Study the fundamental concepts of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)
- Explore the challenges and opportunities in ESD
- Study the main components and features of holistic, inquiry-based, student-centered and project-based approaches for ESD
- Familiarize yourself with new wicked science topics and how to introduce and discuss them with your students
- Go over different examples of how to use holistic, inquiry-based, student-centered project-based approaches.
- Revise the theory and practical examples to support competence skills in your students.
- Hear from experts about the National Curriculum and best Finnish practices to incorporate sustainability in schools’ daily life.
- Complete different reading and reflection tasks about your own learning during the course.
- Get support and guidance on designing a lesson plan * that incorporates ESD in your teaching.
* The lesson plan is a requisite to achieve a certificate from this course.
The objective is to localise its content as much as possible with your local issues (school/community), and integrate into the lesson plan the most important concepts and elements of ESD that have been discussed in the course. You will receive personalised feedback and improvement suggestions about your lesson plan from EduGems pedagogical team of ESD experts.
Certificates
Upon completion of Module 1 and Module 2 + lesson plan, each participant will receive a beautiful signed certificate from Finland. Our teachers achievements are celebrated in EduGems Teacher Community and social media pages.
You are also provided with an automatic certificate after attending webinars and after completing Module 1.
